ZERO TO TWITTER: DAY 1 - SIGN UP & SET UP

December 1, 2014

Happy Monday, December, first day of summer and 'Zero to Twitter' launch day!! Dec 1 is a very big day. Its the day you take ahold of Twitter for your business! You may have read my blog post last week; where I declared my dedication to share my journey back to Twitter with you - literally from ZERO [my new business account with 0 tweets, 0 followers and 0 followings] TO a full-blown active TWITTER account.. in 12 days.  An honest documentation of setting up Twitter for my business, and daily blog posts of how-to's - so you can too.

You may be saying "if she has no followers, how can she help me?" To that, all I can say is, let me show you.  Who better to show you than a marketing professional, social media coach and past Twitter feign, transitioning from personal to business use and re-discovering the ins and outs of Twitter as a business owner - translating each step into a step-by-step how-to for you and providing my real-time tips as I implement my strategy to grow my followers.

Are you ready to go on this journey with me? Are you ready to get a handle on Twitter so it can help you grow your business? Lets get started!

DAY 1: SIGN UP & SET UP

If you already have an account >> jump straight to SET UP below, if not, first things first - sign up for Twitter here.

Think carefully about your username as this is how you will be referred to and recognized as. If your preferred name is taken [dang it], it’s not the end of the world - just try inserting an underscore before, after or through your desired username, or you may need to shorten to an alternative e.g. restaurant = rest.

SET UP

Now, lets set up that beautiful blank canvas so that visitors know who you are and what you’re about when they land on your profile page.

You have 3 seconds to intrigue a visitor and convert them into a follower. They may recognize your logo, name or imagery, but if not they’ll look to your header photo and bio to see if they can gain something from your page and your tweets.

Luckily for most of us, we have other social media platforms set up already; whether it be Facebook or Instagram you can use them as a guide for your new Twitter profile.

HEADER PHOTO

Just like your Facebook Cover Image, your Twitter Header Photo is the large banner space at the top of your profile page. This space should be used to portray your business offering and essence, or to promote events, promotions or key activities of the business.

Optimal size: 1500 x 500 px.

Tips:

  • www.picmonkey.com is a fantastic tool for simple cover image creation
  • Your Header Photo views differently on desktop vs mobile.  When creating your image, ensure your important information is within the 'safe areas' shown here, so that they are visible on mobile devices.

PROFILE PHOTO

Your Profile Photo is usually your logo or a nice professional headshot.

Optimal size: 400px x 400px

BIO

Who you are and what you’re about.

Optimal size: 160 characters

HOW: TECH STEPS

  1. Log in via your desktop computer: www.twitter.com
  2. Go to your profile
  3. Click on edit
  4. Select "change header photo" / "change profile photo"
  5. Upload the image/s you’ve created
  6. Update items on the left hand side: name, bio, website, location etc
  7. Save changes
  8. Voila, you’re all set up!

Tweet me [@theartof_social] and use the hashtag #theartofsocial so I can see your fan-dangled new profile, set up and ready to go! Not sure how to tweet yet? Tune in tomorrow for Day 2 of Zero to Twitter in 12 days and I'll step you through some of the lingo.

getting away is good for your soul, i love how exploring new places can really get inspiration flowing. I am loving taking photos at the moment, just for fun! It makes me look at my surroundings differently, to find the beauty around me and seek out what excites me... and these sea treasures shaped like a seahorse made me really happy- nature at its finest. *ps why is there no seahorse emoji?!
setting intentions for the new year can bring a certain level of anxiety— to choose a direction, a goal for 2019, feels big and definitive. What if instead you focused on how you want to feel, and let the universe show you the way?
The biggest year to date, in business and in life. Thank you to my clients, for the creative freedom and trust to help you grow your dream,
for your ongoing support- some year after year,
for your understanding as I’ve cut back to welcome my baby girl, and
for allowing this little business of mine to grow- this year and the next.
Thank you to each and every one of you who has followed along, the past 6 months have been quiet over here but I’m excited to explore all that 2019 has to offer with you, including a special something on the horizon. Big love and Happiest of New Years 💫
