Yesterday we covered off how to follow people, businesses & accounts [Find & Follow].
How did you go? I’d love to hear your favourite to follow [so far]. I’m always looking for new inspiration and accounts to follow!
On Day 4 of Zero to Twitter we’re discovering conversations that we want to be a part of! Finding real-time information about an event, topic, trend or place that you want to know more about, or join in on.
Joining conversations that are relevant to your business, brand or personal interests can be a great way to gain awareness, attract new followers, and most importantly network with people who share similar points of view.
So how can you find content you’re interested in?
Hashtags & topics making the biggest waves in the Twittesphere are referred to as trends. Trends are a great way to converse with the masses on something topical.
The latest favourites, retweets, and follows from the people you follow on Twitter – like your Facebook ‘Home’, or Instagram ‘Followings’ pages.
Type a specific keyword into the Discover tab. Perhaps you are about to attend an event, or watching a tv show you want to follow commentary on [this is actually quite amusing & addictive]. Visiting somewhere soon and want to get the inside scoop? Search away & see what people are saying! Browse either:
What's happening now, tailored for you. Both ‘most popular’ content or tailored to you based on your activity [followers/following]
Showcasing the most recent tweets on the topic of interest you’ve chosen – from around the world! This feed will move quickly, it’s the real-time views of anyone, worldwide. Where else can you tap into that kind of information?
*Remember you can refine your search [icon to the right of search bar], so that you only see Tweet of people “near you”. Gold if you are searching for people/tweets locally.
4. Let hashtags lead the way
Click on #hashtags within users tweets, or search [as above] to discover all the tweets mentioning the term – remember hashtags can’t have spaces or symbols.
5. Promoted Trends
Promoted Trends display relevant trends promoted by Twitters advertisers. These appear at the top of the Trending Topics list on Twitter and elsewhere on the platform, and are clearly marked as "Promoted."
HOW: TECH TIPS
If you’re predominantly an App user like me [AKA phone attached to my palm 24/7], you’ll find the Top Tweets & All Tweets options when you use the search bar at the top of the screen.
For Trends & Activity – the stuff Twitter knows you’ll like: hit your Timelines [bottom left corner icon] and swipe right. You’ll find a world of content based on what’s popular, and what people you follow are engaging with.
Find your Discover tab, the left hand side has links to each section for you to browse.
Being successful on social media isn’t just about participating in an online world. Social media is about bringing your real world, online. Start to take notice of event invitations, signage in-store, menus in restaurants, any touch point you come in contact with when dealing with a business/brand >> if they’re on the ball they might even direct you to use a specific hashtag when interacting with their business. E.g “love our food, tell us @asiajoes #asiajoes”.
You’ll start to think like a tweeter, you may even become obsessed; I recall walking around trying to fit all of my interactions within 140 characters. Ok, you may not be a full-fledged tweeter yet – but after tomorrow [Day 6: Writing the perfect tweet] you’ll be well on your way to finding out that Twitter is addictive!
