HOW YOUR BUSINESS CAN BEAT INSTAGRAMS' NEW ALGORITHM

Instagram is testing an algorithm based feed {as opposed to chronological} and there has been quite a heavy user backlash against the idea...  but I don't think it's cause for panic.  It will be based on a users history of interaction with an account, not what Instagram THINK they want to see {from random ppl they don't follow} or paid posts from big businesses.

Popular posts at the top, followed by all posts.

It's times like this we are reminded that we don't own our social media space, we are using a platform, that is a business, and we are at their mercy. If you don't like it - you don't have to use it. But you'd be losing out - big time.

So instead of throwing in the towel, or protesting against the inevitable - we adapt. How can you make sure your business is ahead of the game for when these changes are implemented?

Below are my top 4 tips::

KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE

If you know your audience you can give them what they want!

If you give them what they want, they will like and comment on your posts.

If they like and comment on your posts, you will appear at the top of their feed when Instagram implement their new algorithm.

POST KILLER CONTENT

As per usual, content is key! Now more than ever you have to provide content of value to your target audience, content that they really love seeing and reading.  Remember that the algorithm is based on what each individual user likes, not what is 'popular on Instagram'... so keep the goodness rolling out. Be original, authentic and consistent.

BE SOCIAL

Don't be stingy with that love heart tap. It's important to be social on social media - to actually take the time to engage with those you follow: support them through tough times, celebrate their wins! They are people, just like you and I, trying to make it work and I guarantee - if you give, you shall receive. Don't just be a passive social media consumer - build an online community.

ASK YOUR FOLLOWERS TO TURN ON POST NOTIFICATIONS

Did you know there was a feature on Instagram where users can chose to 'turn on post notifications' - so that whenever you post they are among the first to know? Well there is, and it's easy as pie:: get them to select the 3 dots underneath one of your posts & select 'turn on post notifications'. Voila.

What do you think about the upcoming changes?
